Tesco took the Retailer of the Year 2019 title whilst Booja-Booja was the winner of the FAIR trophy for the Best FreeFrom Food 2019.
Oakland International, for the 5th year running sponsored the retailer category and joined fellow sponsors in congratulating this year’s FreeFrom Food Awards winners which took place at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Oakland International Co-Founder, Sallie Attwell, commented: “Freefrom food is a fast-growing market and a reflection of today’s consumer demand for healthier food options and as a supply chain business we have seen freefrom retail growth across our consolidation, contract packing and distribution platforms. Our congratulations to Tesco and Booja-Booja and to all FreeFrom Food Awards category winners.”
The annual FreeFrom Food Awards reflect the enormous growth in the FreeFrom market, with gluten-free, milk-free and allergen-free becoming a familiar site on retail shelves. FreeFrom Food Awards judges ranged from professional food manufacturers, chefs, cookery writers, dietitians, nutritionists and to freefrom bloggers. Director of the awards and heading the judging team was freefrom food/health writer and expert Michelle Berriedale-Johnson.
“The Freefrom category continues to grow and to surprise us each year as freefrom manufacturers adventure further and further into the realms of ‘normal’ foods and explore the huge opportunities offered by naturally freefrom foods.” said Michelle Berriedale-Johnson adding, “Meanwhile, the quality just keeps on getting better.”
