A summer holiday programme for children in the Coalville, Ibstock, Measham and Castle Donnington areas has secured funding via children’s charity the Oakland Foundation.
The summer holiday programme, organised by North West Leicestershire District Council’s Health and Wellbeing team, aims to encourage more children to get involved in sport through local sports clubs and to promote a healthier lifestyle and the advantages of being more active, with the funding providing healthy lunches for all children attending.
Oakland Foundation Trustee, Peter Vaughan commented: “We are able to offer our support to North West Leicestershire District Council’s Health and Wellbeing team’s summer holiday programme thanks to our key sponsor Oakland International who have generously agreed to provide the lunch funding needed.
“With the pandemic affecting so many more people, the Foundation is working to extend its geographical reach and support children and families from a much wider area. During this transition period Oakland International have kindly agreed to support a number of youth initiatives directly.”
The Oakland Foundation works with, and supports, a range of educational and youth projects for children and young people up to the age of 16 and their families centred around education, health and nutrition and sport.
Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: “Improving the health and wellbeing of residents in North West Leicestershire is a priority for us and it’s important that we encourage children to be active and healthy as early as possible.
“The summer holiday camp is the perfect opportunity to educate children and young people to make healthier lifestyle choices whilst also making it fun and engaging.
“I’d like to thank Oakland International for its support and helping us to bring the much needed programme to children and families across the district.”
