Children at three primary schools in Leicestershire are to benefit from a new afterschool club initiative starting this September.
Heather Primary in Coalville, St Denys Primary in Ibstock and Ellistown Primary will all take part thanks to ME Sports in the Community CIC securing funding from children’s charity Oakland Foundation. Over a period of 6-weeks children and their families will engage and learn more about the advantages of taking part in sports and the impact nutritious food has on overall health and wellbeing.
ME Sports in the Community CIC provides a variety of health, wellbeing, leisure and sports activities for children, young people and adults, promoting a greater understanding of how sports and leisure activities impact positively on not only physical but also mental health. Children in receipt of pupil premium or receiving free school meals will enjoy a range of fun physical activities and learn about the importance of how good nutritious food directly impacts mental and physical health.
David Ryan Operations Manager at ME Sports in the Community CIC commented: “We are delighted and thankful to the Oakland Foundation for their kind donation towards our delivery of this initiative. The funding will support children to engage in physical activity and supportive learning around health and nutrition and the impact that this can have on their own physical and mental wellbeing.”
The Oakland Foundation children’s charity works with, and supports, a range of educational and youth projects for children and young people up to the age of 16 and their families based on education, health and nutrition and sport, and provides funding for activities and programmes which assist and develop self-confidence and personal skills.
Oakland Foundation Trustee, Mark Williams commented: “The importance of sport, physical activity and good nutritious food on a child’s overall development cannot be underestimated, with families struggling financially hit hardest when finances dictate choices, so we are delighted to fund this valuable targeted afterschool initiative.”
