Self-funded and leaving on Monday 30th December for the South Pole, Dean Attwell, the Group Chief Executive of Redditch based business Oakland International is delighted to have passed the first quarter of his £20,000 fundraising target.
Raising funds in support of children’s charity Molly Olly’s Wishes, a charity set up by grieving parents Rachel and Tim Ollerenshaw following the death of their 8-year old daughter Molly who had been diagnosed with and battled a Wilms tumour for 5-years, sadly passed away in 2011.
Undertaking a demanding training regime, these last 2-weeks will see Dean’s training intensify to ensure he’s ready to handle the extremes of weather, temperatures and icy and snowy conditions of the South Pole.
Said Dean: “Please donate and support, no matter how much or little you can give, and I urge everyone to stop and take a look at Molly Olly’s Wishes, because when you do, you’ll see why I am doing this South Pole challenge and pushing so hard to raise money for an amazing charity.
“Molly Olly’s Wishes has helped over 1,500 children from birth to 18 years from across Great Britain and donated Olly the Brave therapeutic toys and books to over 50 UK hospitals which help children understand and cope with the many challenges they will experience during treatment.”
Undertaking 3-weeks of walking and skiing at an altitude of approximately 3,100m for up to 10 hours a day in their quest to reach the South Pole, Dean and the rest of the expedition are due to arrive at the South Pole by the 14th January 2020. Every penny donated will help grant a range of children’s wishes including hot tub hoists to help ease chronic muscle pain, wigs or hair extensions, sensory equipment as well as a range of fun and engaging special treats.
Dean added: “All my expedition costs are covered, so every penny people donate will go directly to support the work of Molly Olly’s Wishes which does such amazing work supporting children diagnosed with a terminal or life-threatening illness.
“Thank you in advance for donating as it will mean so much to the many children the charity, with your help, will be able to support next year!”
