A group of friends never to enjoy the heady-heights of pop stardom, will instead perform as Team Wrong Direction when they undertake the ultimate Boy-band challenge around the Brecon Beacons on Saturday 25th June and all in aid of Action Medical Research.
Their Race the Sun Challenge will be a 24hr non-stop Boy Bandathon whilst cycling, climbing and kayaking around the Brecon beacons.
Team Wrong Direction members include Christian Shuker of Central IT Systems and his brother Patrick Shuker, Stuart Starkey of Starkey Electrical and Oakland International’s Dean Attwell and Cory Winstanley.
Explaining why the friends decided to take up the challenge, Christian Shuker said: “The name of the team was inspired by some of us still preferring to dress like we might be in a boy band.
“And as we’re all now dads on the wrong side of forty, and because the charity is specifically for children with rare illness, by raising money through the Race the Sun Challenge we’d be helping a fantastic charity and keeping fit at the same time.”
Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity working to help save and change children’s lives through medical research, supporting those affected by rare conditions. Almost everyone has benefitted in some way by their pioneering work including the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine.
With a fundraising target of £2000, Team Wrong Direction are continuing to power ahead with their training, increasing the distance they cycle and walks up the Clent Hills and in the Brecon Beacons leading up to their challenge later this month..
Added Christian: “The vital research Action Medical Research undertake is a lifeline for so many, so please give generously and support us and the charity via our just giving page: (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Wrong-Direction2016).”
