Oakland has a longstanding commitment as a family enterprise to be a sustainable business with an environmental and social conscience that always acts ethically and fairly.
Having various social and environmental initiatives in place, we also know we have a lot more to do and are constantly looking for ways to improve.
BRCGS AA accredited, a double Queen’s Award for Enterprise recipient for International Trade and Sustainable Development, we are now working towards becoming the first net-zero business within our sector with a focus on people, planet, and social and environmental sustainability.
Our program of investment in solar, electric and hybrid technologies, as well as several other sustainable initiatives, are all embedded in our business practices, choices, growth strategy and planning.

Net Zero by 2040
We have set the ambition to become a net-zero business by 2040.
In May 2021, Oakland joined the Business Ambition for 1.5oC Campaign and the UNFCCC Race to Zero, in order to contribute as a business to achieve net-zero global emissions by 2050 and limit global warming to 1.5oC. In alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we have set the target to become net-zero as a business by 2040, which includes the following sub-targets:
• Long Term: 90% reduction of emissions by 2040
• Near Term: 42% reduction of emissions by 2030
• To source 100% renewable energy by 2030
